Physical therapist · takes appointments

Colbie Jorgensen, PT, DPT

A therapist who has raced triathlon since 2006, for the runners, cyclists and active adults of St. George.

Colbie is a physical therapist who has chosen to focus on helping active adults get back to the sports they actually care about. Triathletes, runners and cyclists, largely, because those are the sports he has the most consistent experience with, and that experience is not theoretical: he has been racing triathlon since 2006 and has ridden longer cycling events of 200-plus miles in a single day.

He received a Doctorate of Physical Therapy from Arcadia University and a Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from the University of Utah. Over the last fifteen years he has studied a range of manual therapy treatment styles and has worked with a wide variety of conditions, and he is Clinical Excellence Certified through the Institute of Clinical Excellence.

He also has training and experience in bike fitting, which is rarely found on a physical therapy menu and is frequently the actual answer for a cyclist's knee. A position problem is not going to be resolved by treating the tissue that the position keeps irritating.

His own summary of the work is the least oversold thing anywhere on this site, and it is worth quoting rather than paraphrasing.

A patient with a severe hamstring pull, who could barely stand on it, wrote that Colbie was patient, listened to what was bothering him, and built a rehab programme from that information. He finished the review thrilled to be walking again without pain. That is a fairly precise description of the approach in the quote below being applied to an actual leg.

“If I take time to listen to people, focus on the basics, and teach people how to help themselves, physical therapy can be pretty simple. Most people don’t need a bunch of fancy exercises or miracle treatments. They just need someone to guide them in the right direction and provide skilled feedback and coaching along the way.”
